The Story


My name is Jens Eisenhammer and I am an Austrian based cook. I have found a new home in the beautiful province of Salzburg, here I feel more at ease than even at my birthplace Lübben at the Spreewald. Through my fellow men from many different nations, I have become acquainted with some very interesting and pleasant types of alcoholic drinks. At reunions often some special drinks, from the various homelands, are served or just some that should be shared among friends. In the summer of 2016 these tasteful experiences influenced me to take an interest in the distillation of alcohol and liqueurs in general. I have read thematic literature and asked around in my circle of acquaintances for further information. In December I got an idea, which I still work on and through which I carry on collecting experiences. 

“Try making your own elixir, something that will taste exactly like you want it to.” Due to the laws by the legislative authority and frame conditions of my small, but lovely community of the Saalbacherhof, I decided upon the variation of steeping spirits. I set out to create my first “magic potion”, I could barely wait to taste it. Every day I turned the glass, once in the morning before I went to work and once more when I arrived in the evening. I could witness the transformations of the colour and how the rock candis dissolved more and more. In the beginning work days were way to long, for I wanted to be back home with the glass. After a month, the time had come. With opening the glass, a fruity, spicy and aromatic cloud filled my nose, and I went to filter the luminous red liquid very carefully. The moment had come, I tried my first own homemade elixir. Like a special kiss, which I will remember forever, I relished every drop. 

 

“It all started with a KiSS”

 

I shared this, for me so special, liqueur with my friends and associates. And I started to experiment with the search for and with special ingredients and flavours. The knowledge and experience of my profession may have also influenced this work in a creative way. After many attempts and some failures, I learned what I had to take in account and started to surprise my social circle with small and special treats at birthdays or other opportunities. I learned what types of flasks are commonly used in the market and decided on so called pharmacist bottles. In the past many tinctures were steeped or produced by pharmacists. They filled their tincture in their distinctive flasks and added a small sign with the receipt. I wanted to duplicate this with my little delicacies. Henceforward I went on, step by step, to include every small, but for me essential, little detail. After a long search, I also found a high-class protection during transportation of the glassy treats. Packed in a wooden casket, resting on a bed of wood wool, my little elixirs go on their journeys and remind other connoisseurs of nice times at Saalbach. Because here, at the foot of the mountain, my KiSSelixir was born I am so proud of it.
